Kindergarten Events

Kinder Heading

Kindergarten Orientation-  A parent-only event before the start of school that serves as an introduction to both the school and kindergarten teaching team. You will hear about daily schedules, student expectations, and FWE's culture and community.

Kinder World Changers- a special Frostwood program started to help students understand their ability to positively impact the community around them. Every month the kinder class will host a drive for items to benefit different community organizations. The entire school is encouraged to bring donations and help our FWE kindergartners change the world!

100 Day Parade- Kindergartners make a special shirt with 100 objects on it to celebrate the 100th day of school. Then the morning of 100 Day they parade through the Frostwood hallways in their shirts while the rest of the school cheers them on! Parents of kinder students are invited to come watch the parade.

101 Day- After all the excitement of 100 Day we can't just stop there; kindergartners are invited to dress like they are 101 years old. During the day they will be encouraged to dream and share what they think they will be like at 101.

Kinder Alphabet Musical- A longstanding tradition! The kindergarten class puts on a Spring musical all about the alphabet and the different rules of reading.

Pink Piggy Words- Since the early 90s, Frostwood kindergartners would learn their Pink Piggy (sight) Words throughout the year. While they may no longer be called Pink Piggy Words at school the tradition lives on when the kinder students celebrate the end of the year by painting their own piggy banks. Also, a very special Pink Piggy Party is thrown at the end of the school year exclusively for Kinder moms! Tickets to this party will be available during Auction in February.

Kinder Talent Show- Come one, come all and see the many talents of Frostwood's Kindergarten class! This talent show has been a longstanding tradition since the early 90s. Kids can perform in groups, solo, or by being audience members.

Splash Day- Frostwood knows how much work that first year is and to help celebrate all the many amazing accomplishments of the kinder class FWE PTA hosts a Kinder Splash Day in May before the end of school. With games, water slides, and more-- its a wet and wild day!

1st grade events

101 Dalmations Day- A tradition that will have you saying "who let the dogs out?" To celebrate the 101st day of school, Frostwood 1st graders dress as dalmatians and have a pup-tastic day.

February Musical- Working with our amazing music teachers, the 1st graders work hard to learn both lyrics and movements for a sweet evening musical performance. Students will have the opportunity to audition for a solo speaking part if they desire.

Popcorn Sales- In late spring our 1st grade classes begin their math unit on money and cense. During this time they will learn the value and look of each cent piece as well as to add and subtract change. At the end of the unit, the 1st grade makes different flavored popcorn and puts on a Popcorn Sale for the rest of the school! Each bag costs $.50 allowing the 1st graders to use their new knowledge in real time to count and make change for their customers.

2nd grade events

International Music Showcase- done in tandem with Frostwood International Festival in the Spring, this musical is a celebration of all the different cultures that make FWE the amazing community it is!

Spring Publishing Day- At the end of the year 2nd grade hosts their families for Publishing Day. A very special time where the students can show all their hard work in writing and story-telling.

3rd grade events

Business Fair- After studying Economics and the Free Market Economy in Social Studies, students have a ‘Business Fair’ as a culminating activity for their Economics unit. Each 3rd grader will make a product (goods) or pictures of the service they will provide to sell at the fair. They will also create a business plan outlying all the details of how they plan to price and sell their item.

Veterans Day Concert- Each year 3rd graders present an annual Veterans Day Program of patriotic songs while wearing red, white and blue. In addition to parents, 3rd grade families are encouraged to invite veterans in our community as special guests. 3rd grade also creates a Veterans’ Wall of Honor in the school to help students learn about the meaning and importance of Veterans Day.

Wax Museum- During this project, 3rd grade students select and research an important historical figure. They then prepare a short presentation to share what they have learned at the “Wax Museum”, which takes place at Frostwood. During the Wax Museum students can dress as their chosen person and present important facts about that individual, achievements, and contributions. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to build confidence, practice public speaking skills, and celebrate their learning.

4th grade events

Musical Instruments Presentation- Starting in 4th grade, our wonderful music teachers begin introducing the students to various musical instruments. In the Spring parents are invited to listen to their child's class play the new instruments they've learned. Some of the instruments they have the opportunity to learn are recorders, ukuleles, xylophones, and drums.

Taste of Texas Field Trip- A  unique experience for our students to learn about the history of our great state of Texas. Taste of Texas owner and Texas history expert, Nina Hendee, gives a tour of the restaurant and history presentation then feeds everyone a delicious lunch.
