SENATE BILL 8 - HEARING TOMORROW - WED 3/22 Please share with your PTAs today!! (Note that this is a Texas PTA top Legislative Priority)
Senate Bill 8 is a sweeping "parental choice" bill that includes $8K in taxpayer money to families who elect to pull a student from a public school to attend a private one.
The voucher snowball effect: when a student leaves, school districts lose money. Recapture payments increase. Specialty & enrichment programs are dropped due to a lack of funding.
School vouchers hurt Texas public schools because they direct funding away from an already critically underfunded system.
SB 8 is being heard for the first time THIS WEDNESDAY by the Senate Education Committee.
Please consider phone calls or emails to the Senate Committee on Education TODAY AGAINST this bill.

"I OPPOSE Senate Joint Resolution 29, Senate Bill 8, Senate Bill 176, and Senate Bill 2354.
Vouchers take much-needed money from local neighborhood schools. Texas public education funding is ranked amongst the bottom 10 states in our Nation (see Education Week - Quality Counts). Keep education tax dollars in public schools.
Furthermore, private schools are not required to accept students with a voucher and they are not held to the same accountability standards or fiscal responsibility as public schools.
I urge you to say no to any education savings account or voucher bills this session."
